UQJS Speech Competition 2026

The annual UQ Japan Society Japanese Speech Competition is a contest for high school and university students from across southeast Queensland to promote Japanese language learning and culture together.

 

Contestants are given a topic which they will present in front of an audience and judges, and have the chance to win a prize!

To ensure a fair and supportive competition, the contest will feature two categories:

Beginner Division Topic:
「尊敬する人について」
“About the person I respect the most”

Speech Length: 2–3 minutes ( +30 seconds allowance, with point deductions)


Eligibility: Below N3 level  
Open Division Topic:

「人間の本質は善なのか悪なのか」
“Are people inherently good, or inherently evil?”

Speech Length: 4–5 minutes (+ 30 second allowance, with point deductions)


Eligibility: Native speakers, N3+/JAPN3XXX or higher
The top three winners in each category will receive a prize from our sponsors.

Whether you are a beginner or an advanced learner, this contest is a great opportunity to showcase your Japanese skills, build confidence in public speaking, and meet other students who are also passionate about the Japanese language and culture.
